ITSC 1347. UNIX SYSTEM ADMINIStrATION II (2-4-3)

This course teaches the necessary skills to administer UNIX servers and workstations in a network environment. The system security features of the operating systems are presented and network and computer security configurations and techniques are stressed. This course will provide new system administrators the basics of administering UNIX servers. System administration tasks, such as installing server software, authenticating users, providing for fault tolerant backup and restore systems, and supporting new connectivity protocols such as RDP/VNC, SSH, VPN, and Samba/LinNeighborhood will be covered.

This course is also designed to familiarize students with the fundamentals and implementation of Information Security. Students will learn the basic Information Security goals of CIA - confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Vocabulary and terminology specific to the field of information security are discussed. Identification of exposures and vulnerabilities and appropriate countermeasures are addressed. The importance of appropriate planning and administrative controls are also discussed. Prerequisite: ITSC1358, ITSC1405.
