Course Objectives: ITSY 2430 Intrusion Detection is a
second semester course designed for Level One of the Security Certified
Program (SCP). This course has been designed to map more clearly to the
exam objectives for the current Security Certified Network Professional
(SCNP) exam. The primary emphasis is on intrusion detection, but
this course also covers essential practices like developing a security
policy and then implementing that policy by performing Network Address
Translation, setting up packet filtering, and installing proxy servers,
firewalls, and virtual private networks. This course provides students
with a solid foundation in network security fundamentals, but assumes
familiarity with the Internet and basic networking concepts. This course
includes many hands-on activities along with realistic case studies.
All students are required to obtain an e-mail account. If you have any
questions about the course or need assistance, please contact me in
person or by telephone (361)698-1299 during office hours; or by e-mail
at any time. You will submit the end-of-chapter assignments by e-mail
with a date stamp at or before 11:00 P.M. on the due date. E-mail
submissions should be submitted as an attachment in Microsoft Word
format.
